Fujikura Jewel Diamond Platinum Golf Shaft Review

Fujikura Diamond Speeder Shaft Review
Fujikura Platinum Speeder Shaft Review

The price of premium golf shafts is no longer bound by the $360 ceiling that has been in place for the last few years. Mitsubishi, Oban, TPT and now Fujikura are producing a new generation of shafts and pricing them appropriately to cover the cost of the high density prepreg use in the shafts. The Fujikura Jewel Speeders have full length 90 ton fabric and Torayca T1100G.The price, $550 per shaft. What I see in these shafts is stiffness and torque numbers that correspond to shafts that last year were 5 to 15 grams heavier. These are the carbon fibers materials used in commercial airplanes where the strength to weight ratio matters. The shaft companies have to compete for these materials with other industries that buy vast quantities of fabric compared to the very small needs of the golf shaft business. Fujikura is offering two models, the Diamond and the Platinum that we can clearly see from the tip to butt ratios are low launch and high launch.

Fujikura Speeder Evolution IV Golf Shaft Review

Fujikura Speeder Evolution IV Shaft Review

The Fujikura Speeder Evolution IV released in 2018. The review of the Evolution I was published in 2015, the Evolution III in 2017. I see the first three generations as variations on a theme. The slope of the profile got flatter from generation to generation. Flatter slopes or higher tip to butt rations tend to facilitate lower launch. The Speeder Evolution IV takes the next step in reducing launch/spin.

Fujikura Pro 2.0 Driver Golf Shaft Review

Fujikura Pro 2.0 Driver Shaft Review

The Fujikura Pro 2.0 is an update of the Fujikura Pro driver shaft that we reviewed in 2014. The Fujikura Pro 2.0 is a 2018 revision of that shafts. This profile is now available from a number fo shaft companies. Fujikura uses the term ‘loading zone’ to describe the design. That term is not new, it has been used by True Temper where I first encountered it. In my experience, it works for many golfers and is one of those designs that does, for some, deliver distance. Always remember, there is a synergy between your swing and a golf shaft. What works for your buddy’s swing will not necessarily work for your swing. Lets take a look at this profile and how it is expressed in the Fujikura Pro 2.0.

Fujikura tells us the 2018 Atmos has a higher launch and softer profile version of the Tour Spec version and is inclined to promote a higher flight and spin. Lets take a look at the measurements to get insight into this profile.

It has been a long time since I looked at Fujikura shafts. Review samples have been difficult to obtain. The Atmos covered in this review was introduced in 2017. It is offered by several club companies as a $200 premium upgrade.
