I saw a lot of Fujikura Ventus shafts in play at the 2022 Masters. A box of review shafts arrived last week. This is the fourth design of the Ventus. It is different from the Ventus Red, Ventus Blue and Ventus Red.

Fujikura tells us the Ventus driver shaft is made with full length Pitch 70 Ton Carbon Fiber material that is 150% stronger than Toray T1100g. T1100g is used in many premium driver shafts. In the Ventus, the 70 ton full length fiber is combined with 40 Ton Carbon Fiber to minimizes twisting. We here from them that high torque creates dispersion. The design of the Ventus is low tip torque to decrease dispersion. Years of fitting experience validate this torque observation. The stock shafts in most drivers have higher torque than the shaft upgrades offered by both the club companies and aftermarket fitters.

We know that very low torque shafts feel boardy. That can be mitigated by having a low torque tip combined with a higher torque mid and but. The tip resists twist at impact while the higher torque in the mid and butt restore feel.

Now that we have the fifth generation of the Speeder Evolution one wonders if this was a marketing strategy planned at the beginning or that evolved over the years. The fundamental design has not changed,a good thing. Along the way there were subtle tweaks.

Alex Dee, the Vice President of Fujikura Golf Shafts is one of the top golf shaft techs in the business. A conversation with him is an insight into where golf shaft fitting and golf shaft design is headed. This video was shot in January 2018 at the PGA Merchandise Show.

Lets start by by looking at the last three Speeder Evolutions.

If you liked the Fujikura Speeder Pro TS you know this shaft. As Fujikura says on their website, the midsection is tightened with a smoother hinge from the butt. I see a better integration of butt into midsection.
